Bus notes: Ohrid to Tirana via Struga

3 May 2025 · Mark Keller

There is no train and no direct big bus, but there is a reliable chain of minibuses: Ohrid to Struga, Struga to the border at Qafë Thanë, a walk across, then an Albanian furgon to Elbasan or straight to Tirana.

Nobody will tell you the schedule because there is none, but in practice something leaves Struga for the border every hour or so in the morning. The border walk is ten minutes and perfectly ordinary.

On the Albanian side, the furgon drivers wait just past the crossing. Agree the price before getting in; it is cheap either way. Expect to stop in Elbasan for coffee whether you want to or not.

Total time door to door was about five hours, including the coffee. Flying would have been faster and far less interesting.
